Job description:
As part of our order with a customer, there was an unwanted mixing of green coffee, which we tried to prevent. Our main objective was to prevent this mixing or blending. To this end, we used our specialized ATEX suction vehicle, which is capable of safely extracting green coffee.
Work carried out:
We carried out the work by extracting a total of 40 tons of green coffee from a height of 50 meters. It was important to us not to touch the material that had been stored beforehand. We took particular care and carried out the work conscientiously to ensure that no mixing took place. A QA-certified acceptance by the plant operator ultimately confirmed the high quality of the work we had done.
Separation and packaging of the material: Within just 3 days, we successfully managed to separate the green coffee from each other and pack it into dry big bags that were easy to store. This ensures that the coffee continues to be of high quality and makes transport and storage easier for our customer.
Challenges and solutions: One of the challenges of this operation was that the emergency services had to verticalize over a safety and working distance of around 30 meters. In order to meet this challenge safely, we had already presented a detailed safety and hazard concept in advance. This concept was implemented perfectly and helped to ensure that the operation was carried out safely and successfully.
The safety of our employees and compliance with all relevant regulations were always our top priority. Additions to the safety and rescue concept: Our safety and rescue concept included various measures to prevent accidents and to be able to react quickly in an emergency
These included, among others:
Use of special safety equipment:
All employees were equipped with high-quality personal protective equipment specifically for silo cleaning, including helmets, safety harnesses, ropes and special climbing harnesses.
Employee education and training:
Our employees were thoroughly trained in workplace safety, rescue procedures and emergency procedures. They were familiar with the specific requirements of this project and were able to respond appropriately.
Continuous monitoring:
We conducted regular monitoring to ensure that safety standards were being met. This included monitoring physical fatigue in the workplace. We established guidelines to identify signs of physical fatigue among the industrial climbers.
We implemented the following measures:
Working time regulations:
We set clear guidelines for working hours and breaks to ensure that climbers were given sufficient rest breaks and did not work while overtired. These regulations were strictly adhered to and regularly reviewed.
Rotation principle:
To minimize the strain on climbers, we used a rotation principle. This means that climbers were regularly replaced to allow sufficient rest and reduce the risk of overtiredness.
Communication and feedback:
We created an open communication culture in which climbers could freely express their concerns about tiredness or exhaustion. Feedback was actively sought and taken into account in order to make adjustments if necessary.
Monitoring systems:
We implemented monitoring systems to detect signs of physical overtiredness in climbers at an early stage. This included, for example, regular health checks and attention to symptoms such as reduced concentration, slower reaction times or increased susceptibility to errors.
Self-assessment training:
We trained climbers in self-assessment of their physical and mental condition. This enabled them to better recognise their own fatigue and take appropriate action when necessary, such as taking a break or resting.By implementing these measures, we were able to ensure that physical fatigue in the workplace for industrial climbers was effectively counteracted and monitored. This contributed to a safe working environment and ensured that employees performed at their best throughout the entire assignment.
When cleaning silos, we attach great importance to compliance with all relevant food regulations. As a responsible company, we are aware of the high hygiene and food safety requirements in the food industry.
To ensure that all work in the food sector complies with the strict regulations, we employ specially trained, state-certified food technicians as team leaders.
These specialists have in-depth knowledge and extensive experience of working with food, as well as a thorough understanding of food regulations.
Our team leader monitors and coordinates all activities during silo cleaning to ensure that all food safety measures are strictly adhered to. This includes, among other things:
- Hygiene measures: We ensure that all employees who are in direct contact with food have appropriate hygiene training. This includes proper hand hygiene, the wearing of protective clothing and the use of personal protective equipment to avoid contamination.
- Cleaning procedures: Our cleaning procedures are tailored to the specific requirements of the food sector. We only use suitable cleaning agents and equipment that comply with food regulations to ensure thorough and safe cleaning of silos.
- Documentation and traceability: We keep detailed documentation of all work carried out, including the cleaning agents and procedures used. This ensures complete traceability and transparency so that we can prove that all legal requirements have been met in the event of an inspection or audit.
Compliance with food regulations is our top priority in order to guarantee the safety and quality of food. By using specially trained state-certified food technicians as team leaders, we ensure that our team has the necessary expertise and competence to meet the strict requirements of the food sector.
Overall, the operation in the coffee industry was a great success. By using our specialized suction vehicle, we were able to prevent the unwanted mixing of green coffee and successfully separate the material. The high quality of our work was confirmed by the QS-certified acceptance of the plant operator. With a well thought-out safety and rescue concept, including measures to monitor physical fatigue, we ensured a safe and high-quality operation.
